Ammonium Bifluoride reacts with water. Ammonium hydrogen fluoride is a corrosive chemical that breaks down toxic fluoride, nitrogen oxides and ammonia gases when exposed to moisture and water. Since hydrofluoric acid is a strong acid, it further dissociates into fluoride ion (F-) and hydrogen ion (H+). At the same time, water molecules also undergo dissociation, producing hydroxide ions (OH-). Therefore, the reaction between ammonium bifluoride and water generates ammonium ion, hydrofluoric acid, fluoride ion, and hydroxide ion.
