Production Process Of Lead Nitrate

2023-05-06

The molecular formula of lead nitrate is Pb(NO3)2. It is a white cubic or monoclinic crystal, hard and shiny, and easily soluble in water.

Production process of lead nitrate The production process of lead nitrate generally includes the following steps:

1. Dissolution of metallic lead or lead oxide in nitric acid: Metallic lead or lead oxide is first dissolved in nitric acid until the reaction solution is yellowish and lead nitrate solution is formed. The reaction is exothermic and care must be taken to control the temperature and concentration of nitric acid.

2. Purification of lead nitrate solution: lead nitrate solution adopts precipitation method or solvent extraction method to remove impurities such as copper, iron and arsenic.

3. Concentration of lead nitrate solution: The purified lead nitrate solution is concentrated by evaporation to increase the concentration of lead nitrate.

4. Lead nitrate crystallization: after clarification and hot filtration, the filtrate and concentrated nitric acid for salting out, after standing, solid-liquid separation prepared. The concentrated lead nitrate solution is cooled and crystallized. The crystals are separated from the mother liquor by filtration or centrifugation.

5. Dried and packaged lead nitrate crystals: Dried lead nitrate crystals to remove any remaining moisture and packaged for transport or further handling.

Lead nitrate is an important industrial chemical used in the production of other lead compounds, explosives and pyrotechnics. It is also used as a corrosion inhibitor in the manufacture of colored glass and in the gold cyanide process. Care must be taken when handling and storing lead nitrate as it is toxic and can cause skin and eye irritation, respiratory problems and other health hazards.
